Author: Paolo Caliari known as Veronese
DATE: 1558 POSITION: right presbytery wall METHOD: fresco
During the Spring of 1558, Veronese started the decoaration of the church: the work proceeded very quickly and the setup of frescos was complete in September of the same year.
In the higher part of the walls runs the decoration of a continuous "portico" with solomonic columns, that are only interrupted in correspondence with the arch of the presbytery.
Towards the opposite of the façade, near the "barco" of the monks, the colonnade illustrates the Stories of St Sebastian.
On the right wall, between two solomonic columns, is placed the figure of St Sebastian stabbed by arrows, that correspondes to the opposite side of the nave the group of the Three Archers; this masterly invented scene, typical work of Paolo Veronese, creates a bond among the virtual effect of the fresco, in which the events of the saint's life carries out, and the realistic effect of the church named after him.
