Author: Francesco Da Ponte known as Bassano il Giovane
DATE: XVI century POSITION: second altar on the left (n°11 on the map) MEASUREMENT: 690 x 360 cm METHOD: oil painting
This piece is part of the Nativity of Jesus, on the first altar to the right, by Francesco Bassano (approximately 1584-1588, part of the artist's final active period). The Resurrection of Christ shows a greater compositional quality highlighted by the skillfull and inspiring light source that comes from two different sources. The first comes from an external source below the soliders and dramatizes their amazement for Christ. The second light is an internal source given off from the risen Christ. The Resurrection was the main focal point during the altarpiece's construction, and this point is stressed by the artist's vibrant and refined color palette, a peculiarity of Francesco's completely manneristic art. The artist signs his work towards the bottom left corner: "Franc. s. Bas. F."
